Polegate Young Quilters
POLEGATE YOUNG QUILTERS
After disruptions to our schedule recently we finally managed to get together again on the 20th June. Nine of our existing Young Quilters were able to turn up and we also had a new recruit from Worthing who came along with her cousins. We had half a dozen helpers – including one with a broken arm and another with a damaged wrist – but we managed! Fortunately a non-sewing husband volunteered for both driving and weight lifting. We couldn’t have managed without him.
All the girls thoroughly enjoyed making their colourful owls. Some became cuddly toys while others were filled with sand to act as doorstops. With the system that had been devised, and a lot of cooperation, very little sand was spilled. Two of the older girls also managed to make round zippered purses, with a loop so they could be attached to a belt. One YQ had a turn on a Janome Horizon and was particularly impressed with the thread-cutting facility. I think she’s trying to work out how to add such a feature to her elderly Singer…
Next session on 11th July will be our last for this academic year, when we will be making simple waterproof back packs for summer holidays and strings of bunting.
Then your organisers and volunteers will be getting together in August to see what we can come up with for after Hever in September. Watch this space!
Please get in touch if you’d like to join us, either for Saturday 11th July, or in the new term.
